Sweden’s R&D agency Vinnova is investing SEK 10 million in a research project on Innventia that will lead to secure pharmaceutical packaging from renewable raw materials and reduced costs in the supply chain. The investment is part of the programme Challenge Driven Innovation.

The Smedpack project, with a total volume of SEK 20.2 million, will be a large collaborative project with industrial partners that cover actors along the supply chain from material manufacturers and logistics to pharmacies and consumers.

Smedpack is partly about material development, which includes the security elements and security printing, and partly about consumer insight and sustainability analysis. In addition, Innventia pilot facilities and the expertise associated with them will be used for testing and demonstration.
