Water usage is a prioritized issue at SCA and focus is now put on water stressed areas. By 2015, SCA will reduce its water consumption in water stress regions with 10%, and all pulp and paper mills will employ mechanical and biological water treatment plants.

“Since SCA operates in countries where water is scarce, we have decided to put our focus where it matters most. Even though our current water consumption is small in these countries compared to other areas, the positive environmental impact will still be greater," says Patrik Isaksson, Vice President Environmental affairs at SCA.

"Water is a local problem and in areas with limited access to water even small reductions make a great difference. The SCA mills in focus are found in water stressed areas in Italy, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Australia and the United States."
