Third Japanese Reactor Written Off

After a problem with the cooling system caused a drop in coolant level at Unit 2 of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, previously maintained by the reactor’s core isolation cooling system and mobile generators, sea water is now being used to cool this reactor as well. The procedure, already implemented at Units 1 and 3, will contaminate the reactor and likely means that it will be decommissioned.
