Mondi has announced that it will stop production of in-line silicone coated products at its facility in Steti, Czech Republic. The Group rebuilt one of its paper machines at Steti with an in-line coating extension, an innovative process technology. Despite the progress achieved to date, the improvements do not outweigh the increased technical challenges and process complexity and the rebuilt machine cannot sustainably deliver the required project benefits.

Consequently, Mondi has decided to phase-out in-line silicone coating at Steti, while continuing to produce speciality kraft paper. Some of the affected employees will be offered positions in Steti to support the growth related to the mill’s modernisation, which includes a new recovery boiler, rebuilt fibre lines and debottlenecking existing packaging paper machines, with start-up planned at end of 2018. For the employees whom Mondi cannot offer a new position, the company is committed to supporting them during this difficult process.

Mondi remains committed to the production of release liner and continues to invest in its global production network. The customers now served from Steti will be consulted on how they can be served by other Mondi release liner plants going forward. Mondi will be in contact with all affected customers to align on an exact transfer plan.
