Kruger has temporarily shut down its pulp and paper mill operations in Corner Brook, Eastern Canada, following emergency wildfire restrictions imposed by provincial authorities due to extremely high fire risk levels.

The company suspended its forestry operations in the region on August 9 and ceased mill activities on August 15. Kruger anticipates the facility will remain offline until late August or early September.

The mill produces approximately 230,000 tonnes of newsprint annually made of thermomechanical pulp, primarily supplying clients in Europe and Asia.

Canada is currently experiencing major wildfires. According to the Canadian National Wildland Fire Situation Report of 13 August, an area of 7.5 million hectares of land had already burned, making it already the second-worst wildfire season in Canada on record.
