Leading US packaging companies accused of price-fixing

Leading US packaging companies are facing a proposed lawsuit alleging illegal price-fixing methods in the containerboard market, EUWID reports.

The lawsuit was filed on 29 July 2025 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by Artuso Pastry Foods Corp., according to the site.

The complaint holds that the companies colluded to artificially increase prices for containerboard, linerboard, and finished packaging products.

The companies named in the suit include:

- Packaging Corporation of America

- International Paper Company

- Smurfit WestRock plc and WestRock CP, LLC

- Smurfit Kappa North America, LLC

- Georgia-Pacific LLC

- Cascades Inc., Cascades USA Inc., and Cascades Holding US

- Pratt Industries Inc.

- Greif Inc.

- Graphic Packaging International, Inc.

The plaintiff states that the above-mentioned companies coordinated pricing strategies and used industry meetings and communications to align pricing and decisions. As a result, they eliminated competition and harmed custromers in violations with antitrust legislation.
