AkzoNobel’s Pulp and Performance Chemicals business (formerly Eka Chemicals), recently announced plans to optimize its European supply chain for paper chemicals. To be a more efficient and competitive supplier, AkzoNobel will consolidate its manufacturing in Europe.

This will lead to a closure of the sizing manufacturing sites in Trollhättan and Borås, both in Sweden.

“These efficiency-enhancing measures position us well to meet demand within the segment,” says Jay Hunsberger, Director, Paper Chemicals Sales and Marketing.

“Our remaining plants in Europe will allow us to stay competitive and serve our European customers with products that create value for them.”

The difficult market and global economic conditions make the current situation in Europe unsustainable. These actions are necessary to remain competitive in this product line, and will ensure that AkzoNobel continues to be a strong supplier to its key customers in Europe.

This is a continuation of the AkzoNobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals strategy to drive key product and application developments in silica, retention and polymers and thereby bring greater value to its customers.
