Russian Volga paper mill invests additional RUB 5 billion in expansion of production this year

JSC Volga, one of Russia’s largest paper and cardboard producers, invests more than 5 billion roubles in the production of packaging papers and cardboard this year, the company told in an exclusive interview

The project will be implemented in cooperation with Andritz AG that will supply basic technological equipment for the needs of the company as a part of the company's development program until 2023, which is known as DEVELOPMENT-2023.

Under the terms of the contract, Andritz will supply a waste paper processing line, a line for applying starch glue to the paper surface from both sides (the application device and the glue press will be installed in the drying part of the papermaking machine No. 6), equipment for other parts of the machine.

Sergey Pondar, CEO of Volga, comments:

“Having signed a contract with Andritz, we have started implementing the first stage of the JSC Volga priority strategic development, aimed at the expansion of the packaging papers and cartons production, increasing the production capacity for processing raw materials and improving the energy efficiency of the enterprise,”

According to him, the purpose of the DEVELOPMENT-2023 strategy is to organize the production of not just container grades of paper and cardboard for the production of corrugated packaging layers, but that of

light and ultra-light types of testliner and fluting, the demand of which is on the rise as of now due to the increase in electronic commerce and delivery.
