ABB launches smart sensor for hazardous areas

The ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor for motors has been launched in 2016 and earned of lot of interest since then in many industries. In 2018 ABB introduced the ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor for pumps followed by a version for bearings and gearing. At the upcoming Hannover Messe 2020 ABB is going to launch the next version, a smart sensor for hazardous areas for rotating machines, such as motors and pumps. This provides a cost-efficient condition monitoring solution for chemical and oil and gas industries.

An ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor measures key parameters from the surface of the equipment which can provide meaningful information on the condition and performance of the equipment. This information enables users to identify inefficiencies and to reduce risks. Maintenance can be planned according to actual needs rather than based on generic schedules, reducing downtime and extend equipment lifetime. Equipment installed in difficult or dangerous to access locations like an oil drilling platform can be safely monitored from a distance. This as well cuts maintenance costs and reduces or prevents unplanned downtime due to breakdowns.
