SKG’s Birmingham mill hit by fire

SKG’s recycled containerboard mill was hit by a fire on Wednesday. The company plans to restart the 200,000 tonne/yr mill as soon as possible.

No casualties or fatalities have been reported.

According to Euwid Pulp and Paper, about 10,000 tonnes of recycled cardboard bales in a large outdoor storage area were alight and that high winds were hampering fire fighting.

The mill operatesone paper machine producing testliner 2, testliner 3 and recycled fluting in a grammage range of 100-220 g/m².
