Brazilian exports of wood-based products increased by 6.8 per cent

In June 2017, Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) increased 6.2% in value compared to June 2016, from $201.5 million to $213.9 million. The value of June pine sawnwood exports increased 14.5% year-on-year from $29.7 million to $34 million, as ITTO reported.

In terms of volume, exports increased 6.8% over the same period 2016 from 156,000 cubic metres to 166,600 cubic metres. The volume of tropical sawnwood exports increased 4.7% in volume, from 32,200 cubic metres in June 2016 to 33,700 cubic metres in June 2017, from $14.6 million to $15.1 million

 

June 2017 pine plywood exports increased 6.3% in value from $35 million to $37.2 million. However, in volume terms exports declined 3.6% (from 134,200 cubic metres to 129,400 cubic metres). This signals a sharp drop in average prices.

 

On the other hand, tropical plywood, export volumes and value increased in June 2017 compared to June 2016 (8.2% in volume and 10.8% in value).

 

On the negative side there was a drop in furniture export values in June this year. Export values dropped from $39.5 million in June 2016 to $36.9 million in June 2017.
