KFS personnel attended and presented at the TAPPI Kraft Recovery Course (KROS) in St Petersburg, Florida from 08 to 11-Jan-18. KROS is a comprehensive review of the important recovery operations in kraft pulp mills with the objective of helping improve pulp production efficiency, minimize operating costs and reduce environmental impact. The course included the chemistry, physics and engineering principles related to kraft recovery. This successful balanced curriculum has been continually peer-reviewed, updated and delivered effectively for 32 years.

The Kraft Recovery Faculty of internationally recognized experts (including KFS Chief Technology Officer, Richard Manning) provided practical day-to-day information through presentations, Q&A sessions, homework, team-based training exercises and networking.

Course topics included:

· Energy and process optimization

· Impact of non-process elements on recovery operations

· Minimizing chemical losses

· Recausticizing and Lime Kilns

· Black Liquor Evaporation

· Recovery Boilers

· Recovery Maintenance & Management

· Tall Oil Soap Recovery

· Electrostatic Precipitators - Principal and Optimization (A New Hot Topic!)

The accompanying photograph shows KFS Chief Technology Officer Richard Manning presenting to over 100 attendees on Lime Kiln Principles and Chemistry. Richard also discussed Combustion and Heat Transfer at KROS.
