Vesa Tempakka, M.Sc. (Econ.), born 1963, has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Vapo Oy starting from 29 May 2017. Vapo’s previous CEO, Tomi Yli-Kyyny, became the CEO of the electricity distribution company Caruna Oy at the beginning of May.

According to Jan Lång, Chairman of Vapo Oy’s Board of Directors, Vapo Oy sought a chief executive who is well-equipped to lead the company to its next stage. Vapo Oy’s operations have been streamlined and clarified over the past six years. Today, the company has a strong customer-oriented energy business. Traditionally a fuel supplier, the company has evolved into a provider of various comprehensive energy solutions and services. The company has simultaneously made significant investments in new businesses aimed at the international market as well as the digital transformation of its entire business. According to Lång, the task facing the new CEO can be summarised in two strategic priorities, namely the continued development of the energy business and the creation of new businesses targeted at the international market.

Vesa Tempakka was the CEO of the logistics company K. Hartwall Oy Ab from 2012 to 2017. He was the Managing Director of De Laval Finland from 2005 to 2008 and, prior to that, he held several different positions at Tetra Pak. Having joined the company as the Sales Director for Tetra Pak Finland in 1993, he went on to become the Director of Tetra Pak’s Carton Division in Canada from 2000 to 2005 and spent 2005–2008 in Italy as the company’s Director of Product Development Strategy and Planning.

According to Lång, Tempakka has an excellent background for his new position. “He possesses strong management experience, a track record of successfully creating and managing international businesses as well as excellent leadership skills. I am convinced that his experience and leadership will make the next phase of Vapo’s development a successful one,” Lång says.
