According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, many paper mills across the US. are trying to find a future in tissue paper.
In North Carolina, Clearwater Paper Corp. opened a $280 million tissue-making plant last. The company received $50 million in state and local incentives to do so. Another company, Wausau Paper, is spending $220 million on a tissue plant in Kentucky, and first Quality Enterprises Inc. opened a tissue plant in Anderson, South Carolina, last year. In New Hampshire, the Goran paper mill was shot down due to the weakening demand for paper, but it is now up and running again, producing tissue.
However, The Wall Street Journal warns that with all these new tissue-making plants there is a risk for oversupply.
