Kaicell take next step to realize pulp mill project
Kaicell Fibres has taken another step to realise its biorefinery project in Paltamo, Finland.
KaiCell Fibers Ltd has signed a preliminary agreement with the Paltamo municipality on terms of the mill site area purchase. The contract was signed by Jukka Kantola, CEO of KaiCell Fibers and by the mayor of Paltamo municipality, Pasi Ahoniemi. Jukka Kantola considers the agreement to be significant: “This is another notable step towards the realization of the project. The site was originally chosen from three different locations, and even in Paltamo we had several alternatives. This mill site is optimal and ideal for KaiCell Fibers.”
The company also announced that the environmental permit for the project was expected to be granted during this year. The company had submitted a corresponding application in November 2018.
Kai Cell plans to build a pulp and bioproducts plant in Paltamo with a capacity of 500,000-600,000 tpy of bleached hard and softwood pulp and 100,000-400,000 tpy of fibres for textile production. Production is expected to start in 2020.
