While work on the construction site for the new paper machine is in full swing, developments in other areas are also progressing to make Koehler's move towards flexible packaging papers successful from the outset. The aim is to substitute plastic with paper in packaging as a mono layer solution or to develop intelligent compounding options, where possible, in order to be able to offer more sustainable solutions.

Polo Handels AG was chosen as the competent partner to market those products in Central and Eastern Europe. Together with Polo, Koehler wants to work on the future business success of one side coated papers including barrier functions and sealability.

Focused end-use areas will be: chocolate/cereal bars, pudding and cereals, sugar sticks, ice cream cones, pouches for dry food e.g. rice, soups as well as pet food, yoghurt banderoles and lids and many others.

Polo is based in Vienna and from there operates a network of 12 sales offices covering entire CEE for more than 30 years. With local, native sales specialists, Polo focuses its activities to market various paper and board qualities as well as packaging machinery.

The Koehler Paper Group can look back on 210 years of company history, and with a turnover of around €800 million it is now one of the few independent, family-owned German companies in the paper industry.

At the headquarters in Oberkirch and the plants in Kehl, Greiz, and Weisenbach, around 1,850 people produce already over 500,000 tons of specialty paper and board each year for the global market using the very latest technology.
