Inflor’s system now used by a CMPC Group company
In August, BdP began to use Inflor Forest, an operations management and decision support integrated system developed by Inflor on the SAP platform that allows improved planning and control of activities in the entire forest production chain.
Among the company’s activities are the research and evolution of the pinus tree genetic material, seedlings and seeds production, and forest planting and handling for sawmills, wood lamination and pulp production companies, among others. Project implementation lasted eleven months and the company is operating with the new solution as of October this year.
Inflor’s Project Manager, Antonio Tatagiba, pointed out that one of the main challenges to the team in this project was to understand the accounting and costs model used in Argentina, in order to propose a better solution. “Our goal was to reduce the time between the operations execution and the data input in the system”, he explained, adding that INFLOR solutions are already widely used by most of the main forest companies in Latin America.
Asset Management, Wood Production, Logistics, Sales, and Biological Asset Management were included in the INFLOR Forest solution for BdP.
Bdp2A bout 120 logging trips are registered in an offline module every day, generating information that is later updated in the system, automatizing the logging sales control and increasing confidence in the data generated on-site, as well as improving integration between the planned and the executed data. With the system, the payment process for pick-up services can be completed in less than 5 minutes.
Activities carried out in the areas automatically reflect in biological assets’ value, allowing all cost traceability and classification. Such faster and more flexible costing process enables the execution of different criteria for assessment and automation of assets depletion based on the volume picked up from forest.
Since INFLOR Forest solution is entirely developed on the SAP platform, all process management and control is ensured by ERP.
Federico Camblong, Administrative Head of BdP, points out: “Incorporating INFLOR Forest to BdP’s daily operations was a technological leap regarding information quality and opportunity. We understand that information quality is crucial to grow in a more and more competitive world, and with this system we are sure we are doing so. By having all processes supported by SAP, we are surely confident of being backed up by a world-class company, which is constantly evolving in order to improve both administrative and operative processes. I would like to thank the complete INFLOR implementation team for their commitment to the CMPC team in achieving the objective and we hope we will continue working together to tackle future challenges.”
BdP’s CEO, Sergio Álvarez, says: “After implementing SAP in our management processes in 2008, we noticed it was necessary to have information traceability coming from the forest operations, and it became one of our main priorities for the company’s business management. After getting to know several world-class systems, we found in INFLOR Forest an appropriate solution for our needs that works completely integrated with SAP. CMPC has found a solution that also enables forest data integration from all its subsidiaries in this system”.
As a next step, a work plan is being discussed by INFLOR and CMPC for the INFLOR Forest solution implementation in other group companies, ensuring complete synergy of processes and information through a unique global corporative solution.
Bosques del Plata Forest Company is part of the CMPC S.A.(Compañía Manufacturera de Papeles y Cartones S.A., ‘Paper and Paperboard Manufacturing Company Inc.’) Group, one of the leading companies in the production and marketing of forest, pulp, paper and tissue products in Latin America. Currently, CMPC is operating in 8 countries: Chile (headquarters), Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, and its products are sold to more than 55 countries.
SAP is the trademark registered by SAP AG in Germany and many other countries.
