The strike by Sappi workers at the Kirkniemi mill near Helsinki has been brought to an end as planned. The workers who began striking on November 18th at 18:00 local time returned to work on monday morning as agreed, however the company considers the strike illegal.
It is believed that the work load of the mill had increased dramatically since the departure of 60 employees earlier this year, leading to the strike action. Harri Lindholm of the paper worker's union at Kirkniemi mill told gathered media sources, "Now we look forward to a constructive dialogue with the mill management".
The mill's Manager Martti Savelainen said, "We will have a discussion with the employee representatives and analyze the situation", as the two parties look to resolve any outstanding issues.
